Our Evaluation Process
The evaluation begins with a clinical interview during which you and the neuropsychologist will review your current difficulties and concerns, medical/psychological history, and personal history. Oftentimes, a family member will participate in this part of the evaluation to assist with providing this information; however, it is your decision whether or not to include a family member.
Following the clinical interview, the testing portion begins. Testing involves the administration of tests to evaluate skills in a number of areas, such as attention, memory, language, spatial skills, problem-solving and reasoning. You may also be asked to complete tests to assess your emotional status and daily functioning.
Tests are administered on a desktop where you will be seated across from the neuropsychologist. Unlike the clinical interview portion of the evaluation, no other person is permitted to be present during the test administration. The testing typically requires several hours to complete and, therefore, you have the option to complete testing in one day or across multiple days.
Following the completion of the evaluation, you will return to meet with the neuropsychologist to review the results. This appointment typically occurs two weeks after the testing is completed. Please note that the results of the neuropsychological evaluation are confidential and can only be released with your written consent. Therefore, it is helpful to consider who you want the results released to prior to the final appointment.
Finally, while the neuropsychological evaluation does require a lot of time, most individuals describe the experience as a positive one, where they were comfortable and at ease during the testing.
